Thesis title: “Expression of the human interferon alpha gene under the control of tissue-specific and constitutive promoters in transgenic tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L.)”.

In 2016 he completed a Msc in Genomics and Bioinformatics at the North Dakota State University, USA (Fulbright fellowship). Thesis title: “Variation in Core and Accessory Parts of Genome of Escherichia coli Isolated from Soil from Riparian Areas in New York State”.

In 2020 Oleks received his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) title at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Germany. Thesis title: “Pangenome analysis of bacteria and its application in metagenomics”.

Between 2021 and 2024 he did a postdoc at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Marine Research. His research focused on the population genomics of Archaea and the symbiosis between Archaea and other organisms.

Since 2025 he started a postdoc at the Biosystems Data Analysis team with the MicroHealth Consortium https://www.microhealth.nl/en.

Research

Oleks’s current research interests encompass several disciplines: omics data integration, modelling, microbiomes, soil-crop-gut-health axis, pangenomics, diet-microbiome and eukaryome – prokaryome interactions; ecology and evolution; evolvability.
