Professional Career

Shijia Li obtained his Master’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from South China University of Technology in 2020. During this period, he conducted research on the gut microbiome of schizophrenia patients, linking their gut microbiome to changes in brain function and structure in patients, and exploring the potential relationship between schizophrenia and gut microbiome from the perspective of the gut-brain axis. From 2020 to 2021, he participated as a research assistant in several studies on the association between gut microbiome and mental disorders in China. Currently, he is a PhD student in the SILS, working in two groups: Biosystems Data Analysis and Molecular Biology & Microbial Food Safety, with a primary research focus on Dynamic data analysis and metabolic model of the gut microbiome.

Research

Currently, my research focuses on two aspects. One is an R package development for analyzing longitudinal microbiome data.

The main workflow of MicrobTiSDA, an R package for longitudinal microbiome data analysis.

The aspect is the application of genome-scale metabolic models to simulate the species composition of the human gut microbiota and predict species interactions as well as metabolite levels.

The integration of In-vitro cultivation and In-silico simulation of the human gut microbiota
